The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), while condemning Monday’s violence, said yesterday that a new government was urgently needed.
“We call on leaders and authorities to immediately restore political stability throughout the country. They must also ensure a safe living and working environment for all, as we collectively navigate this very difficult crisis,” JAAF said in a statement.
“Similarly, we strongly support the efforts of the Sri Lanka Bar Association to ensure a peaceful and democratic transition of power. It is essential that a new government be appointed urgently to fill the current political vacuum,” he added.
JAAF said it would also support the efforts of all other organizations that seek the same result: an end to the crisis, to potential violence and a return to political stability.
He said the violence that erupted in the streets of Colombo and other parts on Monday, and the resulting loss of life, is both unfortunate and deeply saddening.
“We sympathize with people’s distress over the extraordinary negative impact of the economic crisis on their lives and livelihoods. However, violence that costs precious human lives deserves our utmost condemnation,” JAAF added.
