The Department of European and International Studies is recruiting an AEP Lecturer in International Political Economy. The position is open in terms of theoretical and disciplinary training, the wish is an expertise in political economy, public policy and/or politics of Europe and/or the European Union. In particular, the post holder is expected to contribute to the delivery of the BA European Politics and the BA European Studies. The incumbent will contribute to research-led teaching at the UG and PGT levels, help advance the department’s research culture and grant capture efforts, and work well with others in the department and across the board. school and faculty.

This position will be offered on a 2-year full-time fixed-term contract starting September 1, 2022.

Main responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning, organization and delivery of innovative teaching activities within the department, as well as to the continuous development of the study programmes, in particular the BA European Politics and the BA European Studies.
  • Contribute fully to the development and enhancement of the research profile of the department, school and college, including (6th year) by establishing a track record of high quality publications.
  • Develop and maintain individual/joint research projects in subject related areas.
  • Mentor and train postgraduate students to ensure their effective development.
  • Act as a personal tutor for students.
  • Participate fully in the assessment and review process, as appropriate, using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
  • Participate and develop internal and external networks.
  • Conduct individual or collaborative research projects.
  • Contribute to the administrative tasks of the department, school, faculty and university.

Skills, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

1. PhD and first degree in a relevant subject (PhD submitted or completed at time of application)

2. Geographical specialization in Europe and/or in the EU

3. Ability to engage in research-based teaching

4. University teaching experience

5. Clear potential for an excellent academic publication record

6. Good presentation and communication skills

7. Good organizational and administrative skills

8. Ability to supervise student research at BA, MA and PhD levels

9. Ability to provide support and guidance in the supervision and tutoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students

Desirable criteria

1. Administrative experience

2. Experience of major research projects

3. Interest and experience in online, blended and distance learning
