The Department of Government and Public Administration of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in the discipline of Public Administration and Public Policy.

The Department of Government and Public Administration currently has 17 full-time staff and offers programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Faculty members actively engage in research with particular emphasis on public administration and policy, international relations, comparative politics, political economy, and Greater China Area Studies. The required area of ​​specialization is Public Administration, broadly defined to include the sub-areas of New/Collaborative Governance, Smart City Management, E-Government, Government/Society Interactions, Big Data and Emerging Innovations technologies, governance in the Greater China region and other topics related to policymaking and governance of public affairs. Appointment may be at the rank of associate or assistant professor, depending on qualifications. Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field and have a track record of publication in high-calibre international journals and presses. Applicants must document excellence in research and high quality scholarship. They must also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching courses on new governance, public policy analysis, new governance technologies and innovations, governance research methods, etc. at graduate and undergraduate levels in English and preferably also in Chinese, as the department runs several Chinese-taught programs and courses, especially the Master of Social Sciences in Public Administration program and the Professional Doctor of Public Administration program.

The selected candidate must assume his/her duties in August 2023.


A taxable annual remuneration starting at MOP 828,100 (approximately USD 102,230) will be commensurate with the academic qualification and relevant professional experience of the successful candidates. The current maximum local income tax rate is 12%, but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
