Hospital and retirement home

2022 JUNE 29 (NewsRx) — By One News Reporter – Staff News Editor at Hospital and retirement home — New public health data is presented in a new report. According to reports from London, United Kingdom, by NewsRx correspondents, the research said, “The number of Korean elderly people receiving informal care is expected to rise sharply due to the aging population. This study projects the demand for informal care among community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and older in Korea until 2067.

Our editors got a citation from the research of London School of Economics and Political Science: “The study was based on data collected during waves 4-6 of the Korean Longitudinal Study on Aging (2012-2016, * * n * * = 12,975). The demographic data published by Statistics Korea and data from the Long-term Care Insurance Statistical Yearbook for Korea were also used. A macro-simulation model was built to make the projections. The number of older people receiving informal care will increase from 0.71 million in 2020 to 2.2 million in 2067. The demand for informal care from adult children or relatives is expected to increase by 257%, much faster than the increased demand for spousal care (164%). The estimates are sensitive to alternative assumptions about future mortality rates, fertility rates, migration patterns and the prevalence of functional disabilities in the population.

According to the editors, the research concluded: “The demand for informal care in Korea will increase significantly over the next few decades, and the increase will be uneven for different groups of healthcare users. Our analyzes are not only relevant to the long-term care system for the general elderly population, but also have profound implications for intensive users of long-term care in Korea. The findings underscore the importance of accurately identifying unmet population needs and providing timely government support to older adults and their caregivers.
